Remone Houchens' attorney wants a change of venue claiming his client will not get a fair trial with all the media attention on this case. But the judge decided to wait and see how jury selection goes before considering it. Also, for the first time today, a look at the transcripts from an interview between Houchens and authorities.
87-year-old Lois Rosson lost sight in her left eye after the brutal beating on May 22. Authorities say Houchens attacked Rosson in her own bed. Houchens said during a courthouse interview on June 1, he didn't touch Rosson.
In an interview with authorities that same day, Houchens told an investigator he and his best friend broke into Rosson's house to take stuff. But Houchens said no one fought Rosson.
According to the transcript: when Rosson woke up, Houchens claims his friend pushed her over. Houchens told the investigator when he helped Rosson up, he told her he wouldn't hurt her.
Houchens' mother was in the courtroom today, she agrees with his attorney that her son won't get a fair trial in Louisa. She is also adamant her son is not responsible for the injuries to the grandmother.
"I know he didn't do this. He's not capable of beating anybody," said Jill Houchens.
The judge set Houchens jury trial for December 1. It's expected to last three days. Houchens will be arraigned next Monday.

Sup, lets kick this interview off by telling us who you are and what you do in Wretched?
Steven Funderburk and I play Guitar.
If you could, tell us what your latest effort Beyond the Gate has to offer?
It has much better written material, more Guitar solos, more orchestral material, world music elements, and is an overall concept record lyrically.
Also, how was the experience in the studio with Jamie King?
Jamie King is the man. We love working with him. Its a relaxed, laid back experience, and he is probably one of the funniest people we know.
What was the biggest influence on you as a musician?
Probably Megadeth, and Metallica. I wanted to grow up and do what they did back when I was a young teenager.
Are you excited to get on the road with Antagonist, The Breathing Process, and Diskreet?
Yes. very much so. We toured with the Breathing Process a few years back, so it will be good to see those dudes, and dudette again.
Outside of your hometown, where is your favorite place to play and why?
Probably anywhere in California or Long Island, New York. California is awesome, because we love visiting friends, and hanging out anywhere there. Long Island is always awesome, because have a lot of friends up there that we hang with when we come through.
If you could book your own tour with any band past or present who would be on the bill and why?
Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax, and Slayer. I would love to play before those guys every night for a month or so. I grew up listening to all of those bands, and if it weren’t for namely Megadeth and Metallica, I probably wouldn’t be playing Guitar today.
What is your take on the current metal scene? If you could change one thing what would it be?
I think it’s very oversaturated at the moment. There are so many bands out right now that every show on tour consists of at least 11 or 12 bands. It’s almost like you’re playing a fest every night or something.
What is your favorite thing to do during your downtime on tour?
Hang with friends we’re on tour with, or check out places we haven’t seen. We had an off day in Los Angeles on our last tour, and we went hiking through the Malibu mountains with some friends. That was pretty sick!
Thanks for taking time out your day to answer a few questions, feel free to do some shout outs and self promotion.
Thank you! Be sure to pick up ‘Beyond the Gate’. It comes out August 3rd, so mark your calendars and make it sick!
